· In Windows XP

If you are using Windows XP, go to Add or Remove Programs from the Control Panel> Start menu. Wait while the window populates with programs. When done, locate the McAfee product and click to select it. Press the Remove button. You may instead see the Change / Remove button, click on it. If prompted, confirm the removal. You may need admin privileges to remove the program. When prompted, restart your PC.

· In Windows Vista / Windows 7

If you are using Windows Vista or 7, click on the Start menu and type 'programs and features' (without quotes) in the Start Search field and hit Enter. When the Programs and Features window opens up, select the McAfee program and then press the Uninstall button. You might instead see a Change / Uninstall button. As mentioned above, you might need admin rights for removing the program. Restart your PC when prompted.

McAfee Removal steps using McAfee Removal Tool (MCPR)

When the computer has rebooted, connect to the internet, open your internet browser and download MCPR.exe, the McAfee removal tool from a trusted website. You can also copy and paste this link 'download.McAfee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe' in your browser's address bar. Hit Enter afterwards. When prompted, hit the Save File button. If prompted, choose to save the MCPR.exe file on Desktop. Check the Downloads folder if you are not prompted to choose a location.

Locate the MCPR.exe file and open it. Click on the Run button to launch the tool. When you see the McAfee Software Removal screen, click on the Next button. Select the button beside Agree to agree to the license terms and conditions and then click the Next button. Type the letters displayed on the screen in the empty box. Remember, these letters are case sensitive. Thus, make sure that you type small letters in small case and capital ones in capital case. Hit the Next button. It will display a message like preparing for uninstallation.

If the product cleanup has been successful, the tool will display a message like Removal Complete or Software Removed. Click on the Restart Now button. If the cleanup remains unsuccessful, you will see an Incomplete Uninstallation prompt. Click on the View Log button and you will see a list of the files that were not removed by the tool in the Windows Notepad. Save the notepad by clicking on the File menu (at the top) and then selecting the Save As option (save the default name of the file viz. Mccleanup). Exit all the windows.
